Energize Your Life with Food

Are you hungry for a healthy lifestyle? Hello, I am Lisa Cohn, owner of Park Avenue Nutrition & Spa. If your daily routine is leaving you tired and with low energy, you will find this post particularly helpful for boosting your energy level. Many of my clients at the spa are seeking new ways to cook up something delish and energizing in a jiff. First we will go over how to start your day on a natural energy kick with a simple fruit smoothy. Then we will go over some simple breakfast options for morning energy. Next we will make some simple and tasty snacks to keep your afternoon energy level going at the office or when you are on the run.

Breakfast Energy

Let’s begin with breakfast. Perhaps the most important meal of the day, breakfast can make or break your energy level for the day. When it comes to planning for eating well, how you start your day, determines how you’ll finish your day. Planning for a high energy day must begin with your morning meal.

A great way to start the day is with a fresh fruit smoothie, among other great drinkable healthy breakfast foods. All is takes is a home blender. Each recipe has fresh fruit (for natural energy and immune booster antioxidants, powerful digestive enzymes and great hydration), fresh herbs (for mental clarity and better metabolism) and protein (for balanced energy).

Energizer Melon, Pineapple, Mint Smoothie

1 Cup Skim Milk, Plain Yogurt, Almond or Soy Milk
1 Cup Honeydew or Cantaloupe Melon cut into chunks (fresh or frozen)
1/3 Cup Pineapple Chunks (fresh or frozen)
3 Springs Fresh Mint Leaf washed
Organic ingredients are preferred but not necessary. Toss all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Drink from Bullet Mixing Cup or pour into glass or carrying cup.

Banana, Papaya, Lemon Energizer
1 Cup Skim Milk, Plain Yogurt, Almond or Soy Milk
1 Banana sliced into medium pieces
½ Cup Papaya Cubed
½ Lemon juiced. You can squeeze. Rind may be thrown in for extra boost. This will be tart.

Toss all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Drink in Bullet Mixing Cup or pour into glass or carrying cup.

These smoothies get some nice energy into your body and are easy to digest.

Now let’s checking in on other sources of morning energy. Many of us make the mistake of skipping breakfast for kick starting the day with false energy (caffeinated coffee, sugar snack bar, alcoholic beverage, nicotine) which leaves us running on empty late morning and with brain fatigue. Let’s look at some popular morning choices which offer false energy, which sap our energy.
- Breakfast skipper – setting yourself up for low energy and hunger which will make it hard to concentrate on work in the morning, make you moody and stressed
- Doughnut in bag and coffee. – high fat,high sugar, caffeine boost
- Caffeine as energy/Breakfast in coffee cup: a large coffee, 4- tsp of sugars, milk. If you tend to skip food and get your motor going with caffeine and sugar you are setting yourself up for a low energy day.
- Heavy Breakfast of take out container with Fried eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast with butter, jelly , juice, coffee: this is a heavy breakfast with high fat and sugar – sure to slow you down.

Now show better options: How about some better options, which don’t even need cooking
- Fresh fruit/vegetable juice smoothy (as above)
- Hard boiled egg, rye toast, apple, coffee or herbal tea with lemon
- 1% Cottage on toast with applesauce and chopped walnuts, herbal tea
- Grain toast with 1 tbsp peanut butter and ½ sliced apple, herbal tea
- Take out egg white omelet 2 whites/1 yolk with mushrooms, rye toast, tea and fresh apple to go.
- Oatmeal with skimmed milk, raisins, crushed walnuts, cinnamon, coffee/herbal tea/water

So you can see how easy it is to choose energizing foods. We have provided great taste with simple and fresh ingredients. Enjoy the benefits of starting your day in an energizing way. Bonus: Low-Cal Energizing Beverages

Getting enough water in each day is the easiest way to make sure you have an energized day. Aim for 4 or more 8 oz. cups of water each day.

Try these: add a slice of fresh lemon, lime or orange, try a spa tip add a slice of cucumber to your water, have a splash of juice to seltzer; choose flavored seltzers, try herbal iced teas such as mint, apple spice, ginger or lemon for a refreshing beverages.
