Fruit from Chinatown in New York City

Post by Mavis

With New York City being America’s melting pot you can spend one day in city and experience many different food cultures. I invited Shelby and Naomi to take a glimpse of the neighborhood that I grew up in, Chinatown. New York’s Chinatown is the largest Chinese community in the western hemisphere. The vibrant streets of Chinatown are full of stores that sell anything from clothing to fresh fish and exotic fruits from the local supermarkets.

Chinatown is also a great place to try out different fruits from Asia. Have you ever had dragon fruit, durian, lychee, longan or rambutan? These fruits are not native to the American culture and many people have not even seen these fruits before until taking a walk down to Chinatown located in lower Manhattan. These fruits are great for satisfying my sugar cravings without having to constantly purchase gummy bears, sour patches or chocolate. During the summer time when I crave for sweets I usually go for a cup of longan. The water and fiber content in the fruit helps me feel full for a longer period of time.
